A total of 81 state-owned mills and factories in Bangladesh have so far been privatized after the formation of the Privatization Commission.
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, in-charge of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Parliament, made the disclosure in Parliament on Sunday, replying to a query from treasury bench MP, AFM Bahauddin Nasim (Madaripur-3), reports UNB.
Of the privatized entities, 30 were under the Textile and Jute Ministry, 19 under the Industries Ministries, five under the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry, and four under the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, said the minister.
20 other state-owned entities under the Industries Ministry and three entities under the Finance Ministry, were given to the private sector through handing over government shares, she said.
