National Mourning Day observed across the country

National Mourning Day was observed across the country on Tuesday in commemoration of the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
People from all walks of life paid their respects while also calling for the repatriation of the fugitive killers of Bangabandhu from abroad, so that the court verdicts can be executed.
Elaborate day-long programmes were held In Rangpur by the district administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), Awami League, its associate organisations, educational institutions and government departments.
Rangpur Betar Kendra aired special programmes and the local daily newspapers published special supplements on Bangabandhu.
In Manikganj, the day was observed in the district through various programmes including a mourning rally, milad mahfil and discussions.
Several discussion meetings marking the day were organised in Chittagong by north and south district units of Awami League and its front organisations, different socio-cultural organisations, trade unions, district administration and professional bodies.
Leaders and workers of Awami League and its front organisations and professional bodies wore black badges throughout the day. Party programmes included the hoisting of the national and black flags at half-mast atop all party offices and placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
AL also organised Qurankhwani, Milad Mahfil, discussion meetings, a poetry recitation, essay and quiz competitions on the life and activities of Bangabandhu, exhibition of films, playing of the historic March 7 speeches of Bangabandhu in 41 wards of the city corporation, blood donation and the distribution of food among the destitute.
In Rajshahi, various government and non-government organisations, political parties, socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions, including Rajshahi University and RUET, observed the mournful day in a befitting manner.
In Khulna, the day was observed in the city and district with due respect and solemnity. Khulna district administration organised a discussion on the life and deeds of Bangabandhu at Khulna Deputy Commissioner (DC) office.
In Chapainawabganj, Quran Khawani, Milad mahfil and special prayers were held across the district seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members.
National Mourning Day was also observed in other districts of the country including Magura, Tangail, Khagrachhari, Barisal, Pirojpur, Sirajganj, Kurigram, Shariatpur, Jhalokhati, Joypurhat, Comilla, Panchagarh, Jessore, Natore, Thakurgaon, Barguna, Noakhali, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Chuadanga, Pabna, Lalmonirhat, Narayanganj, Bagerhat, Narail, Patuakhali, Sherpur, Jamalpur, Gopalganj, Meherpur and Gazipur.
