Doctors remove eight stones from Thakurgaon woman’s eyes

Putul Rani, a 24-year-old woman living in the village of Daulatpur in Thakurgaon had been suffering from ocular problems for quite some time now. On Tuesday, she visited Dr Islam Hossain Sarker, an ophthalmologist at Swasthosheba Hospital in the sadar upazila. Dr Islam recommended her to undergo an operation. The operation took place on Wednesday morning, presided by Dr Islam, who initially thought Putul Rani had a tumour growing beneath her eye. In the course of the surgery, he gradually removed eight stones. When the National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital was consulted, they said the operation broke new grounds in Bangladesh’s medical history. The national institute said it was the first time eight stones had been extracted from a person’s eye in Bangladesh. This story was provided by Md Rabiul Ahsan Ripon from Thakurgaon.
