Imam hacked to death in Faridpur, 5 held

The imam of a mosque in North Alipur area of Faridpur town was hacked to death on Sunday.

The deceased is Abul Bashar, 60, imam of Shah Makdum Mosque at Saltha Gotti of the district.

Shahida Begum, the first wife of the victim, has confessed her involvement in the murder.

According to police and local sources, Bashar used to live with his second wife in Saltha. His first wife lived with six daughters and one son in Alipur.

On Sunday, Bashar went to his first wife's house after few years. In the morning, daughters and the son of the couple were shouting that their father had been killed by miscreants.

On information, police went to the spot and recovered the body.

Lokman Fakir, brother of Bashar, filed a case accusing seven persons.

The police also detained five persons in this connection. Md Nazimuddin, OC of Kotwali police, said they were interrogating the detainees.
