Youth commits suicide after killing sister-in-law and injuring wife

Sajib Hossan (24), a rickshaw-van puller committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree after killing his sister-in-law Sadiya Akter (6) and injuring his wife Sumaiya Akter (18) at Puranpara area under Kawnia police station in Barisal. Nurul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kawnia police station, said police recovered the bodies after being informed by the locals and sent them to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Parul Begum, Mother of Sadia and Sumaiya, said her son-in-law Sajib and Sumaiya, had been having problems for quite some time. Sumaiya had recently left the home of her husband, and came to her parents’ house and took a job in Barisal Textile Mill. Sajib came to the house of his in-laws Thursday night took out Sumaiya and Sadiya before dinner. Sumaiya’s mother Parul Begum went out in search of them after they had not returned home for a long time. She discovered Sadia’s body floating on a nearby pond, Sajib’s body hanging from a tree, and Sumaiya seriously injured and unconscious at the same place. Hearing about the incident, police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and injured victim and sent them to the hospital. Habibur Rahman, deputy commissioner (north) of Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) visited the spot and said the lodging of the case was underway.
