Milon: SSC re-exams planned within 15 days for students failing in up to two subjects

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon on Tuesday said the government plans to arrange re-examinations within 15 days of the publication of SSC results for students who fail in up to two subjects.

“The government also plans to help students struggling in general education transition to technical and vocational education, rather than allowing them to continue facing academic setbacks,” he said while speaking to journalists at the auditorium of the Rural Development Academy (RDA) in Bogra.

The minister said the government wants to expand skills-based education opportunities for students who fall behind in the general education system. Cultural activities, sports, and recreation would receive greater emphasis alongside academic studies from Class IV, aiming to ensure children develop both physically and mentally, he added.

Earlier at noon, Milon attended an orientation training course for 612 officers who joined the 49th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) general education cadre as the chief guest.

Addressing the newly appointed officers, he stressed the need to address teacher shortages and gain professional experience in rural areas. He also urged teachers to encourage students to ask questions and place greater emphasis on research-based teaching.

Describing government colleges as institutions that provide higher education opportunities to the general public, the minister said the country's future would depend largely on teachers' sense of responsibility.

He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to prioritizing education and called for preventing the waste of public funds allocated to the sector.

The program was chaired by Dr Sardar Md Keramat Ali, secretary (routine duties) of the Secondary and Higher Education Division.

Bogra-6 (Sadar) MP Rezaul Karim Badsha, Prof Dr Wasim Md Mezbahul Haque, director general of the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM), Prof Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, director general of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, and Dr Md Abdul Majid Pramanik, acting director general of RDA, Bogra, also addressed the event.
