The installation of automated process control systems (APCS) has been completed at both units of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Ishwardi, Pabna, while an operator information support system (OISS) is assisting startup operations at the first unit.
This is the first time the technology has been deployed at a nuclear power plant built by Russia’s Rosatom outside the country, according to the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom on Tuesday.
The APCS, supplied by Rosatom Automated Control Systems (RASU), integrates around 20,000 pieces of equipment across 43 systems and can monitor more than 7,000 parameters related to reactor stability and power generation.
Developed using digital twin technology, the OISS has been integrated into the first unit to support startup activities. Installation at the second unit is also planned.
Another component, the AI-based information and control system (AICS), analyses data from 360 process-related systems to identify potential abnormalities. It also provides more than 80 guidelines to help operators respond to emergencies and make faster, data-driven decisions.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev said the Rooppur project was one of the largest cooperation initiatives between Bangladesh and Russia and an important project for deploying modern automation and control technologies.
He said the new systems would help reduce emergency response times and operating costs while providing reliable support to control room staff.
