Livelihood support distributed to climate-affected residents

Computers, sewing machines, and food carts were distributed among 30 beneficiaries under a project undertaken aimed at improving the livelihoods of climate-affected urban poor communities.

The items were distributed at Selfie Park in the city’s Ghat No 7 area on Tuesday morning under the “Livelihood Support for Urban Poor Communities in Bangladesh” project.

UNDP Bangladesh Assistant Resident Representative Stephen Rodriques distributed the items as the chief guest, while Chief Executive Officer of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Razib Ahmed attended the program as the special guest.

Speaking at the event, Rodriques said climate change has created serious challenges for people in the southwestern region, including waterlogging, drinking water shortages, poor sanitation, and limited employment opportunities.

The initiative is being implemented with technical assistance from UNDP and financial support from the Global Development Fund and China International Development Cooperation Agency.

Ten beneficiaries received computer sets, 10 sewing machines, and 10 food carts from 19 Community Development Committees across 17 city wards.
