A nine-year-old girl was injured in an exchange of gunfire between armed groups backed by the UPDF (Prasit) and JSS (Santu Larma) in Sajek of Rangamati’s Baghaichari upazila on Tuesday.
The incident took place around 8am in the Chailyatali area of Sajek.
According to local sources, the two groups exchanged several hundred rounds of gunfire over establishing control in the area.
Sanjita Tripura, a resident of Chailyatali, was hit by a bullet in her left hand during the exchange.
The bullet was later removed from her hand, and she is currently in stable condition, police said.
Sajek police station Officer-in-Charge Tofail Ahmed said the two groups exchanged gunfire in the morning over establishing control in the area.
He said the child was injured in her left hand during the shooting and that the bullet had been removed. She is currently in stable condition.
