Two children died of suspected measles while 158 patients were admitted to hospitals in Sylhet division in the past 24 hours.
No confirmed measles cases were recorded during the period, according to the latest data from the Divisional Health Department.
The deaths have raised the division’s combined toll from confirmed and suspected measles to 172 since January 1. Of them, 10 were confirmed measles deaths and 162 were suspected cases. A total of 1,053 confirmed measles cases have been recorded this year.
The latest fatalities were seven-month-old Samya of Shalla upazila in Sunamganj and two-year-two-month-old Faria of Tahirpur in the district. Both died while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Of the 158 newly admitted patients, 53 were admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital and 45 to Osmani Medical College Hospital. Sunamganj Sadar Hospital admitted 43, while Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital received 11.
Currently, 535 suspected patients are receiving treatment across the division, including 189 at Osmani Medical College Hospital and 167 at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
Sylhet has recorded the highest number of confirmed cases at 385, followed by Sunamganj with 357, Moulvibazar 158 and Habiganj 153.
The health department said necessary treatment and healthcare services are being provided at hospitals and local health facilities.
