National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Amanullah paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban on Sunday.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Nazmul Hossain, Dean (acting) of School of Undergraduate Education Professor Dr Md Ashiq Kabir Chowdhury, Registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hossain, Director of Regional Centre Coordination Office Md Aminul Akter and Director of Internal Audit Office Md Jasim Uddin were also present at the meeting, said a press release.
During the meeting, the vice-chancellor briefed the president on the National University’s academic, research and administrative activities, as well as initiatives taken over the past two years to improve its education and administrative systems.
He highlighted several initiatives, including establishing district-based performing arts colleges, setting up colleges for students with disabilities, publishing examination results more quickly, strengthening English and ICT education, conducting nationwide teacher training programs, expanding technical and vocational education, and increasing collaboration with institutions and organisations at home and abroad.
He also briefed the president on measures taken to improve the quality of education at colleges in marginalised areas.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir praised the university’s initiatives and expressed hope that the vice-chancellor would receive all necessary support to advance its education reforms and development programs.
The vice-chancellor also briefed the president on the university’s role in implementing various government decisions and initiatives.
He said the university had already taken steps to modernize the education system and make it more employment-oriented and relevant to current needs through curriculum and syllabus reforms.
