Electricity and internet connections have been restored following a fire in a room at the Pioneer Base of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project in Ishwardi, Pabna. Officials said normal operations at the project are continuing.
The fire broke out around 3am on Monday in the server room of the Pioneer Base, damaging several computers, air conditioners, documents, electrical equipment and internet server components.
An Ishwardi Fire Service unit responded and brought the fire under control. Officials said three additional units were also present as part of a routine fire service drill.
Following the fire, electricity supplies to two buildings, including the Pioneer Base, and internet connections to several project offices were temporarily disrupted. The disruption also caused a brief water shortage at the customs building and canteen, but services were later restored.
The fire service initially suspected that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. However, the exact cause will be determined after an investigation.
Abu Hashem, the senior station officer on duty at the site, said the fire occurred in a room outside the radiation zone.
“The fire was quickly brought under control, and electricity and internet services are now functioning normally,” he said.
