Three more people died of dengue in Khulna division in the past 24 hours, while 242 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the division.
The figures were disclosed in a report issued by the office of the Khulna divisional health director on Tuesday.
According to the report, a total of 7,660 dengue patients have been hospitalized in the division between January 1 and September 8 this year. Of them, 25 have died, while 6,578 have recovered and been discharged. Currently, 878 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals, while 179 patients have been referred to other facilities.
Divisional Health Director Dr Sheikh Md Mosharraf Hossain said 206 of the 242 newly admitted patients were taken to government hospitals, while the remaining 36 were admitted to private hospitals.
Of the new patients, 97 were admitted in Khulna, including 61 at government hospitals and 36 at private facilities. Khulna Medical College Hospital reported 65 new admissions.
Meanwhile, 17 new patients were admitted in Bagerhat, 37 in Jessore, two in Jhenaidah, eight in Satkhira, five at Satkhira Medical College Hospital, two each in Magura and Narail, three each in Kushtia and Meherpur, and one in Chuadanga.
However, a rally and cleanliness drive were held in Khulna yesterday to raise public awareness about dengue prevention.
The Khulna Civil Surgeon’s Office organized the program, which began at the premises of Khulna 250-bed General Hospital.
Addressing the campaign, Deputy Commissioner Hure Jannat said there is no alternative to public awareness to prevent dengue and protect lives. “Everyone must remain aware and encourage others to take preventive measures,” she said, urging people not to panic over dengue fever and to care for patients according to doctors’ advice.
She also stressed the need for regular monitoring of surroundings, keeping homes and their adjacent areas clean, and using mosquito nets. The government alone cannot combat dengue, she said, urging people from all sections of society to play responsible roles.
