20 medical students injured as bus falls into ditch in Comilla

Twenty students of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barisal were injured when a bus carrying them fell into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla district on Tuesday.

The injured students were identified as Jaoat, Ferdous, Koushi, Miraj, Mursalin, Emon Mridha, Arif, Shafiqul Islam, Maliha Mehnaz, Raihan, Sajia, Taspia, Ariful Islam, Samiul, Rajarshi, Tasnim, Humayra, Mila, Nisa and Tanzina.

The accident occurred around 4:30am in the Jinglatali area when the bus, carrying 40 students, fell into the roadside ditch after its driver lost control of the steering while heading to Cox’s Bazar for an annual educational tour, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Nur Uddin Bahar of Daudkandi Highway Police Station.

Following the accident, the students cancelled their tour and returned home.

On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured students.

Among the injured, nine students were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
