A pedestrian injured after being hit by a government vehicle carrying State Minister for Public Administration and Food Abdul Bari in Shibganj, Bogra, has died.
The deceased is identified as Firoza Begum, 60.
She died while undergoing treatment at TMSS Medical College Hospital in Bogra around 12pm on Friday, Shibganj police station Officer-in-Charge Shahinuzzaman confirmed.
“The woman died while undergoing treatment. Legal proceedings following the accident are ongoing,” the OC said.
The accident occurred around 9am on the Mokamtala-Joypurhat regional highway in the Gopinathpur area of Kichak union.
According to police and local sources, State Minister Abdul Bari was travelling from Dhaka to Kalai upazila in his Joypurhat-2 constituency. He was accompanied by his wife, Nazma Ara Begum, and a police vehicle providing security.
When the vehicle reached Gopinathpur, Firoza Begum was crossing the highway when she came in front of the state minister’s car and was hit.
The driver swerved in an attempt to save her but lost control of the vehicle, which then went into a paddy field beside the road.
Firoza, wife of deceased Nizam Uddin and a resident of the area, sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to TMSS Medical College Hospital, where she later died.
The state minister and his wife were also injured in the accident.
Nazma Ara Begum said the driver lost control of the car while trying to save the woman, causing it to veer into the paddy field.
