Police have released Siddharth Das’s father, Binoy Das, and elder brother, Partha Das, after questioning them in connection with the murder of former Rangpur Zilla School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and three members of his family in the Masuapara area of Rangpur city.
Police detained the two from their homes on Saturday night and took them to the Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) office, where they were questioned for about four hours.
Deputy Commissioner of Police of Rangpur Metropolitan DB Sanatan Chakraborty confirmed the matter.
According to DB police, shortly after the bodies of Ganapati and his family members were recovered on August 22, two suspects, Mugdha Das and Siddharth Das, were detained. They later gave confessional statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, admitting their direct involvement in the four murders.
Police subsequently asked Siddharth’s father and brother to appear at the DB office for questioning, but they did not do so. They were later detained from their homes on Saturday night.
Sanatan Chakraborty said important information was obtained from the two during questioning and would be verified and reviewed.
“For now, they have been released on bond. If necessary, they will be questioned again,” he said.
After their release, Binoy Das and Partha Das told reporters that they had not been mistreated by police. They said they were questioned about the incident and provided all the information they knew.
