Nearly 5,000 underprivileged people in Bogra received free eye treatment and healthcare services at a medical camp held at Bogra Poura High School and College on Friday.
The camp was organized by Al-Bashar International Foundation with support from the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, at the initiative of Dr Zubaida Rahman, Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation and a cardiologist.
Women, men and children from different parts of the district attended the camp, where they received free eye examinations, medical consultations and necessary healthcare services. Doctors also provided medicines and eyeglasses to patients based on their medical needs.
Cataract patients were identified during the camp, and arrangements were made for free surgery in cases requiring further treatment. As part of the initiative, 500 patients have been selected to undergo cataract surgery with intraocular lenses free of charge at the 250-bed Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogra.
Former MP Helaluzzaman Talukder Lalu, vice-president of the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal, visited the camp. He inspected the activities, spoke with doctors and patients, and distributed medicines and eyeglasses among the beneficiaries.
Among others, Al-Bashar International Foundation Bangladesh Sector Country Director Dr Ahmed Taher Hamid Ali, BNP Central Committee member Ali Azgar Talukder Hena, Bogra district BNP leaders Fazlul Bari Talukder Belal and M R Islam Swadhin, and representatives of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation and Al Noor Eye Hospital were present.
Organizers said many low-income people cannot receive timely eye treatment due to financial constraints. The initiative was aimed at bringing essential eye care, particularly treatment for cataracts and vision problems, to those who cannot afford it.
They said such humanitarian and healthcare programs would continue in the future as part of efforts to support disadvantaged communities.
