Two accused confess in Rangpur's 4 murders case

Two people arrested in connection with the killing of four family members, including a former schoolteacher, at their home in Rangpur city confessed to the murders before a court.

The accused, Mugdha Das, 23, and Siddhartha Das, 19, made their confessional statements before Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Rafiq-ul Islam at around 11:30pm on Sunday, said Nirmal Chandra, officer-in-charge (investigation) and investigating officer of the case.

He said both accused admitted their involvement in the incident and gave confessional statements before the court. However, he declined to disclose details of their statements, saying the matter was still under investigation.

The investigating officer also declined to comment on how or why the four members of the same family were killed.

After recording their confessional statements, the court ordered the two accused to be sent to Rangpur Central Jail, Nirmal Chandra said.

He said there was no provision to keep the accused in police custody after they had given confessional statements.

The two accused were taken to jail around 12:30am.
