DNCC launches special cleanliness week drive

Dhaka North City Corporation’s (DNCC) cleanliness campaign will not be confined to a single day but will continue as an ongoing process, with greater public awareness needed to make Dhaka a clean city, DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan said.

He made the remarks while inaugurating a special cleanliness week program in front of the DNCC Regional Office at Mohakhali in the capital yesterday, said a press release.

Shafiqul Islam said the cleanliness week initiative has been launched across all DNCC zones as part of a long-term plan announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to build a “Clean Dhaka, Green Dhaka.”

“Keeping Dhaka clean cannot be achieved through a one-day campaign. It must be a continuous process, and public awareness is essential to its success,” he said, adding that sanitation workers at the ward and unit levels are performing their regular duties every day according to their assigned schedules.

He noted that DNCC covers a vast geographical area and serves a densely populated city, making it impossible for the corporation alone to ensure cleanliness across the entire area. “Along with ensuring civic services, we also expect active cooperation from citizens,” he said.

He urged people to stop throwing tissues, plastic and other waste indiscriminately in public places. “Everyone should take responsibility for keeping their homes and the areas in front of their residences clean. If citizens cooperate, we will be able to achieve our cleanliness targets ahead of schedule,” he said.
