At least eight people were killed and around 25 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses in Sylhet's Osmaninagar upazila on Friday morning.
The accident occurred in the Dayamir area, Officer-in-Charge of Osmaninagar Police Station Golam Mostafa confirmed.
The identities of the deceased and injured could not be confirmed immediately.
According to police, a Bengal Paribahan bus travelling from Dhaka to Sylhet collided head-on with a Unique Paribahan bus heading from Sylhet to Dhaka.
The impact sent the Unique Paribahan bus plunging into a roadside ditch, while the Bengal Paribahan bus remained on the highway.
Police said all eight fatalities were passengers of the Unique Paribahan bus. Around 20 to 25 people were also injured and were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment.
