Jubo League activist killed in Khulna

A Jubo League activist was killed after being shot and attacked with a sharp weapon by unidentified assailants in Khulna city early Thursday.

The incident took place at around 12:15am in the Bara Khalpar area of South Tutpara. The deceased was identified as Ismail, 32, son of local resident Md Shajahan.

According to police, Ismail had multiple cases against him, including a murder case. They also identified him as a listed drug trader under the Khulna Metropolitan Police.

Police and local residents said Ismail was in the South Tutpara Bara Khalpar area when a group of assailants opened fire at him. He sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was then attacked multiple times with a sharp weapon.

The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault. Locals rescued Ismail and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

The killing created tension in the area, prompting police to deploy additional personnel to maintain law and order.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and identify those involved.

Khulna Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiqul Islam said: “Preliminarily, it is believed that the assailants shot Ismail in the head. To ensure his death, they also struck his head with a sharp weapon. Evidence has been collected after inspecting the scene. The body has been kept at the morgue of Khulna Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Police are conducting operations to determine the motive behind the killing and to identify and arrest those involved.”
