Habiganj District Administrator Dr GM Sarfaraz has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1898, in the municipal area amid tensions between the BNP and National Citizen Party (NCP).
He imposed the restrictions through a notice issued at 10am on Wednesday.
According to the notice, the NCP had called a rally in the Habiganj municipal area on Wednesday. At the same time and at the same venue, Habiganj municipal BNP and the district unit of Chhatra Dal had also called a protest rally.
The district magistrate said tensions had emerged between the two sides over the programmes, raising concerns that the law and order situation could deteriorate.
As a result, under Section 144, all types of meetings, rallies and the use of loudspeakers have been banned in the municipal area.
The district administration has instructed the police to enforce the order in the public interest.
