Gopalganj Fish Seed Production Farm achieves 100% production target

Gopalganj Fish Seed Production Farm has successfully achieved its 100 per cent production target for the 2025–26 fiscal year, meeting the objectives set by the Department of Fisheries.

The department had assigned the district's only government fish seed production farm a production target worth Tk 787,800. During the fiscal year, the farm produced 127 kilograms of Renu fry, 1,391 kilograms of carp fry, and 100,000 Pabda fry, all of which were successfully sold.

According to official figures, the sale of 127 kg of Renu fry generated Tk 241,300, while 1,391 kg of carp fry fetched Tk 326,500. The sale of 100,000 Pabda fry earned Tk 200,000. Additionally, the farm generated Tk 20,000 from the sale of fruits and vegetables grown on its premises. Altogether, the farm earned Tk 787,800, with the entire amount deposited into the government treasury through official receipts.

Gopalganj Fish Seed Production Farm ManagerTanjila Akhter Nipa said the government-run facility spans 1.62 hectares and comprises eight ponds and one hatchery.

"We collect eggs from brood fish and produce fry in our own hatchery. Strict quality control is maintained at every stage of production, ensuring healthy and properly sized fry. The fry are sold at government-fixed prices, allowing fish farmers to purchase quality seed at affordable rates," she said.

Local fish farmers expressed satisfaction with the quality of fry supplied by the government farm.

Habibul Bahar  a fish farmer from Karpara village in Gopalganj Sadar , said he has been purchasing fry from the farm for the past 15 years.

"The fry are affordable, have a low mortality rate, and grow as expected. Using these quality fry has helped me achieve good production and consistent profits," he said.

Another farmer, Kamrul Islam of Kajulia village, said the government farm has built a strong reputation among local fish farmers.

"Farmers trust the quality of fry produced here because they perform well in commercial fish culture. However, the farm is unable to meet the growing demand. Increasing production capacity would greatly benefit fish farmers across the district," he said.

The Gopalganj Fish Seed Production Farm continues to play a vital role in supplying quality fish seed to local farmers, contributing to higher fish production and supporting the development of the district's aquaculture sector.
