National scientific seminar on liver cancer held at BMU

A national scientific seminar titled “Transforming Hepatocellular Carcinoma Care in Bangladesh: From Prevention and Early Detection to Precision and Transplant Oncology” was held at Shaheed Dr. Milton Hall of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) on Tuesday.

The Department of Hepatology and Hepatology Alumni Association jointly organized the seminar ahead of World Hepatitis Day 2026.

Experts at the seminar underscored the need for comprehensive strategies to prevent hepatocellular carcinoma, strengthen early detection, expand access to modern systemic therapies, promote liver transplantation, and establish a population-based national HCC registry.

They also emphasized that early diagnosis, multidisciplinary care, and collaborative research are vital to reducing the country's liver cancer burden.

BMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr FM Siddiqi attended the event as the chief guest while Prof Dr Nuruddin Ahmed, former Chairman of Department of Hepatology at BMU, as the special guest. The session was chaired by Prof Dr Md Shahinul Alam, Chairman of Department of Hepatology.

The panel of experts comprised Prof Dr Saif Ullah Munshi, Prof Dr Syed Md Akram Hossain, Prof Dr Mohammad Mahabub Hossain, Prof Dr Md Mohsin Chowdhury, Prof Dr. Bidhan Chandra Das, Prof Dr Fazlul Karim, Prof Dr Biswajit Bhowmik, Prof Dr Md Golam Azam, Prof Dr Abdullah Al Faruk, and Prof Dr Abdullah Al Mahmud.
