Two more children have died with measles-like symptoms in Sylhet, raising the total number of deaths linked to measles and suspected measles cases in the division to 95.
Of the deceased, 94 were children and one was an adult, according to a health bulletin released by Sylhet Health Department on Tuesday.
Health officials said one of the deceased children was Amman, a four-month-old son of Deen Islam from Bishwambarpur Upazila in Sunamganj. He died while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The other victim was Nafi, a seven-month-old daughter of Akhlasur Rahman from Rautgram in Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet. She died while receiving treatment at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
During the past 24 hours, 54 new patients with suspected measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the Sylhet region. Of them, 29 were admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital and 25 to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
With the latest admissions, a total of 253 patients with suspected measles are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals across Sylhet Division. Among them, 117 are being treated at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, 70 at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, 29 at Sunamganj Sadar Hospital, 12 at Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital, eight at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, five at North East Hospital, three at Habiganj Sadar Hospital, three at Golapganj Upazila Health Complex, two at Mount Adora Hospital, two at Sylhet Lions Hospital, and two at Bishwanath Upazila Health Complex.
