Cabinet Secretary vows quick completion of Khulna shipyard road project

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani on Sunday pledged to expedite the completion of Khulna Shipyard Road Widening and Development Project after inspecting the site and expressing dissatisfaction over its 13-year delay.

During the visit, Gani examined the main road, four sluice gates, the project layout, and an under-construction bridge near the Rupsha Bridge approach. He also met local residents, who described years of suffering caused by the unfinished road.

The cabinet secretary sharply questioned project officials after finding an embankment blocking water drainage in front of a sluice gate, calling the design illogical and demanding an explanation from the project director.

Speaking to reporters, Gani said the inspection assessed the reasons for the prolonged delay, the project's current status, and construction quality, adding that steps would be taken to complete the work as quickly as possible.

Approved in 2013 at an initial cost of Tk98 crore, the project has undergone multiple revisions. A government committee is now investigating the causes of the delay and possible negligence.
