17 teachers of Gopalganj Science and Technology University dismissed

The authorities of Gopalganj Science and Technology University have dismissed 17 teachers following decisions of its Regent Board for disciplinary andadministrative reasons. Sixteen of them were expelled for failing to return after their study leave abroad despite repeated written instructions to resume duties.

Another teacher was dismissed separately for alleged violation of government service rules and professional misconduct. The decision was taken at the 43rd Regent Board meeting held on June 23 after considering disruption to academic activities. The information was disclosed on Sunday in an office order signed by the university's Registrar, Md Enamuzzaman. The affected teachers had been on study leave abroad and failed to comply with repeated directives to report back.

The order also instructed them to refund financial benefits received during the leave in accordance with regulations. The dismissal of the remaining teacher took effect on June 23 due to misconduct allegations confirmed in a separate decision. A press release later confirmed the same information from the university public relations office.

Officials said the action was necessary to maintain academic continuity and ensure compliance with university service regulations. They also emphasized that prolonged unauthorized absence of faculty members abroad had been affecting course delivery, examinations, and overall administrative functioning of the university significantly.
