Authorities at Pagla Mosque, Kishoreganj have recovered an estimated 43 sacks of cash along with gold and other valuables from its donation boxes on Saturday morning, following a six-month interval since the last opening.
Thirteen iron donation boxes at the mosque, located in the Harua area beside the Narsunda River, were opened around 7am. The counting process is still ongoing.
More than 500 people are participating in the operation, including mosque management committee members, teachers and students from the on-site madrasa and orphanage, students from nearby Jamia Imdadia Madrasa, and officials from Rupali Bank.
Officials said the boxes are usually opened every three months, but this time the interval was extended to six months due to Ramadan and the national election period. The last opening was on December 27, 2025, when Tk 11.78 crore was collected. That amount was deposited into the mosque’s account at Rupali Bank, while gold, silver, and foreign currency were secured in the district treasury.
Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner and mosque management committee president Sohana Nasrin said the 13 donation boxes—10 permanent chests and three temporary trunks—were opened after being fully filled. She added that the mosque now holds a total fund of Tk 114.13 crore.
She also noted that the mosque’s official website (www.paglamosque.org) has been developed, enabling donations via mobile financial services from anywhere. The Bangla version of the site has already received Tk 24.76 lakh in donations.
Plans are underway for a modern mosque complex. As part of this, 53.77 decimals of adjacent land have been purchased, with design work and a public toilet construction project currently in progress.
The mosque fund supports 130 orphan and underprivileged students, salaries for 35 staff and 10 Ansar members, utility costs, and development work. A portion is also allocated for medical assistance to poor patients in the district.
Officials said the counting operation is being conducted with the participation of around 300 madrasa students, 106 students from Pagla Mosque Madrasa, 130 Rupali Bank officials, 35 mosque staff, and 19 officials from the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
A seven-member sub-committee led by the Additional District Magistrate is overseeing the entire process. For security, 13 executive magistrates, 40 police officers, eight RAB members, and 20 Ansar personnel have been deployed and will remain on duty throughout the day.
