Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, a businessman and local BNP leader, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Mathabhanga Kazipara area under Labanchara Police Station in Khulna city on Friday.
The incident occurred at around 12:30pm. Rafiqul was the son of Ratan Gazi and a member of the convening committee of the Batiaghata Upazila unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Mosharraf Hossain of Labanchara Police Station confirmed the incident. He said the victim’s body has been kept at the hospital morgue and that police have intensified operations in the area.
Asabur Rahman Hawlader, member secretary of the Jalma Union BNP, said Rafiqul served as a member of the convening committee of the Batiaghata Upazila BNP.
