A madrasa student was seriously injured after allegedly being taken to a secluded area and stabbed by a teacher following an attempted rape in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj on Thursday afternoon. The accused teacher has been absconding since the incident.
According to local sources and police, the accused madrasa teacher, Hafez Lokman Hossain, allegedly took the student to a jungle near the house of Barek Mia in Paschim Sonarang village and attempted to rape her. When the student resisted, he reportedly stabbed her multiple times in the neck and hand with a sharp weapon.
Hearing the victim’s screams, locals rushed to the scene, prompting the attacker to flee, leaving the injured student behind.
The locals later rescued the victim in critical condition and took her to Tongibari Upazila Health Complex. As her condition deteriorated, attending doctors referred her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Confirming the incident, Tongibari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shamim said that the accused has been on the run since the attack and that police operations are underway to arrest him.
The accused, Lokman Hossain, is the son of Islam Ali from Char Fashion in Bhola district. He works as a teacher at Tongibari Khilpara Sunnatul Medina Madrasa and also serves as the imam of Sonarang Old Jame Masjid in Tongibari.
