RTI implementation workshop held in Rajshahi

A workshop on the implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2009 was held in Rajshahi with the aim of ensuring citizens’ right to access information, enhancing transparency and accountability in government activities, and promoting good governance.

The workshop was organized by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. The event was chaired by Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam.

The Secretary (Coordination and Reforms) of the Cabinet Division, Farah Shammi, joined the workshop virtually as the chief guest. Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Mohammad Khaled Hasan, also delivered remarks virtually.

Highlighting the background, objectives, and significance of the Right to Information Act, 2009 in establishing citizens’ rights, Joint Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Dr. Mohammad Ashraful Alam, said that the right to information is an essential component of a democratic state system.

He noted that the Act not only ensures accountability in both public and private institutions but also plays a vital role in establishing participatory governance.

Senior Assistant Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Muhammad Sadikur Rahman, gave a detailed presentation on the measures necessary for implementing the RTI Act.
