A Rohingya man was killed in a landmine explosion near the Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Khalek, 30, a resident of C Block of Kutupalong-1 Rohingya Camp in Cox's Bazar's Ukhia upazila.
According to local sources, the explosion occurred in the morning near the Reju Amtali border area of Ghumdhum union in Naikhongchhari upazila.
Abdul Khalek reportedly went to an area near border pillar 40 adjacent to the Reju Amtali Border Outpost (BOP) around 9am when a landmine exploded.
He sustained critical injuries in the blast. His left leg was severed and his right leg was seriously injured, locals said.
Residents rescued him and rushed him to the MSF Hospital in Kutupalong, where he succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon while undergoing treatment.
Naikhongchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mozammel Haque said a mobile team from the Ghumdhum Police Investigation Centre was sent to the scene immediately after the incident.
Legal action will be taken in connection with the matter, he added.
