KCC Administrator: Environment protection requires immediate responsible action

Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju has said that failure to act responsibly now to protect the environment will result in various adverse consequences in the future.

“Due to global warming, the region’s trees and wildlife are already facing growing risks. We must take all necessary preparations now to confront these environmental challenges,” he said while addressing a rally drawing competition and sapling distribution program held at Shaheed Hadis Park in Khulna city on Friday afternoon.

The program was organized by Purnima Youth Forum-Khulna to mark the World Environment Day.

Speaking as the chief guest, Manju said the Sundarbans protects the country from various natural disasters, and, therefore, efforts must be strengthened to preserve the mangrove forest.

He also stressed the need for creating a green belt through extensive tree plantation.

“We must collectively build an environment where all living beings can survive and thrive,” he added.

Referring to recent child deaths caused by measles, the KCC administrator urged people to remain vigilant about possible outbreaks of dengue and chikungunya during the upcoming monsoon season.

He also called on residents to help prevent environmental pollution by keeping their household premises clean and disposing of waste at designated locations to support the KCC’s waste management activities.

During the program, the KCC administrator distributed prizes among winners of the drawing competition and handed over tree saplings to participants.

Earlier, he led an environment awareness rally that began at Hadis Park, marched through major city roads, and concluded at the same venue.

The event was chaired by Purnima Youth Forum Chairman Nasrin Razzak. Deputy Director of the Department of Environment, Khulna, Sardar Shariful Islam, spoke as a special guest.
