A housewife named Sonia Khatun (30) and her daughter Neha Moni (11) died in a fire in Kahalu upazila of Bogra on Friday. The incident took place at Shikar Schoolpara village of Narhatta union of the upazila.
Kahalu police station OC Shafiqul Islam said Sonia Khatun was suffering from mental problems. As the smell of kerosene oil was found in the house, it is believed that she committed suicide and her daughter died in the fire. Even then, an investigation is underway to find out the real cause.
At around 7:45 am yesterday, Sonia's mother and sister-in-law were cooking on the stove in the yard. At that time, fire was seen in Sonia's house. On receiving the information, Kahalu Fire Service personnel arrived and brought the fire under control.
They recovered Sonia's body from the house. Her burnt daughter Neha Moni was rescued and sent to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where she died around 12:30 pm while undergoing treatment.
Kahalu Police Station OC Shafiqul Islam said that the two bodies have been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
