Two brothers kill father, sibling over land dispute in Dinajpur

A man and his son were allegedly stabbed to death by two of the man’s other sons over a land dispute in Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur on Tuesday morning.

Another son was injured in the incident.

The incident took place around 6:30am at Champatali Mandalpara village.

The accused, Sadikul and Shakib, fled after the incident.

The deceased were identified as Dulu Mia, 70, and his son from his first marriage, Kabil Hossain, 32. Another son, Habil Hossain, 30, was injured and received treatment at a local hospital.

Police and locals said a long-running dispute had been going on among the children of Dulu Mia’s two wives over the distribution of around 16 bighas of ancestral land.

The dispute had intensified recently. Around 6:30am on Tuesday, Dulu Mia’s sons from his second marriage, Sadikul Islam and Shakib, entered his bedroom at their house.

At one point during an altercation, they stabbed him in the chest with a knife, leaving him dead on the spot.

When Habil and Kabil rushed in after seeing their father, the accused attacked them as well.

Kabil was critically injured after being stabbed and was taken to Kundal Hospital in Saidpur, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Chirirbandar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Nabi said the incident stemmed from an argument over the distribution of property.

“On information, police visited the spot. The bodies of the two deceased are being sent to the morgue of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for autopsies. Preparation is underway to file a murder case, and drives are being conducted to arrest the accused,” he said.
