Bangladeshi youth shot dead in South Africa

A Bangladeshi youth named Suman, 35, was shot dead in broad daylight in South Africa. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon local time when assailants opened fire on him while he was inside his car.

The deceased was the son of Moij Uddin from Abhirampur village under Banshtail union in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail.

According to family sources, Suman had been running a business in Newcastle, South Africa, for a long time. On Saturday afternoon local time, attackers targeted him and opened fire while he was sitting inside his car, killing him on the spot. However, the motive behind the killing is still unclear.

Suman had returned to Bangladesh three years ago and got married. He is survived by a two-year-old son.

Meanwhile, news of his death has cast a shadow of grief over his family and relatives back home, with mourning continuing at his residence.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Mirzapur Police Station, Abdullah Al Mamun, said police had been sent to the victim’s house after learning about the incident. He added that the family would be assisted in bringing the body back to Bangladesh.
