The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 1,500 liters of edible oil during a raid in the Patenga area of Chittagong.
In a press release issued on Friday, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said that a special operation was conducted around 2:00 am on Thursday near Charpara Ghat under Patenga Police Station based on secret information.
During the operation, Coast Guard personnel seized approximately 1,500 liters of edible oil (palm oil), estimated to be worth Tk 2.55 lakh, which had allegedly been illegally unloaded from a vessel without paying customs duties and taxes. The oil was reportedly being taken ashore for illegal distribution in the local market.
However, no one was arrested as the smugglers fled the scene after sensing the presence of the Coast Guard.
Legal procedures regarding the seized edible oil are currently underway.
The Coast Guard official also said that such anti-smuggling operations would continue in the future to prevent illegal trade and smuggling activities.
