Dulu: Govt to ensure proper relief distribution for affected farmers in Sunamganj

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu said that the government will prepare a corruption-free and accurate list of affected individuals to ensure proper distribution of relief among farmers impacted by waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall in Sunamganj.

He made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing a view-exchange meeting at Sunamganj Circuit House with officials, political leaders, and journalists.

The minister said the Prime Minister has been deeply concerned about the situation in the haor region since the onset of the crisis and has instructed authorities concerned to present an accurate assessment of the damage. “If farmers survive, the country survives,” he said, adding that future haor development projects will prioritize transparency and sustainability, eliminating contractor-driven irregularities.

Later in the day, the minister formally inaugurated a three-month assistance programme by distributing financial support, on behalf of the Prime Minister, among farmers affected in Kharchar Haor under Bishwambharpur upazila.

Speaking at the event, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Aminur Rashid emphasized that all concerned must ensure that only genuinely affected farmers benefit from the government’s assistance programmes. He also noted that steps would be taken to prevent similar disasters in the future.

The event was chaired by Divisional Commissioner Aftabur Rahman and moderated by Acting Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj Samar Kumar Pal.

Among others present were Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Members of Parliament Kalim Uddin Ahmed Milon, Nurul Islam Nurul, and Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Sunamganj Zila Parishad Administrator Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, and BNP leaders Akbar Ali and Advocate Sherenur Ali.
