Eviction drive launched along Chandpur–Comilla highway

Authorities have launched an eviction drive to remove illegal structures from both sides of Chandpur–Comilla regional highway, aiming to clear encroachments and improve traffic flow. Roads and Highways Department officials said around 270 unauthorized establishments will be demolished in phases from Chandpur Sadar to Lalmai in Comilla.

The drive began at 10:00 am on Sunday in front of the Chandpur Deputy Commissioner’s office, with assistance from the district administration and police.

During the drive, structures were removed from key locations, including areas near the police super’s residence, Wireless BRDB office, Ikra Model Academy, and the Wireless Bazar areas, where roadside shops had occupied public land.

Executive Engineer Md Yunus Ali described the operation as part of a routine effort, adding that the drive will continue for a week. Authorities also plan to compile a list of affected small traders and forward it to the higher authority for further consideration.
