The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection caught a fake eye doctor and fined him Tk 1 lakh during a drive in Bogra on Sunday.
The drive was conducted at Jibon Eye Treatment Center in the Sutrapur area of the town. Fake eye doctor MKA Sakidar was released upon paying the penalty and giving a written commitment not to engage in such fraudulent activities in the future.
DNCRP’s Assistant Director Mehedi Hasan said that Sakidar is actually a rural doctor. For the past three years, he had been providing treatment at the clinic in Bogra town, falsely posing as an eye specialist. By adding the title “doctor” before his name, he had been deceiving patients. Acting on a secret tip-off, officials conducted the raid and detained him.
Mehedi Hasan further said that Sakidar admitted his crimes, expressed remorse, and pledged to follow all laws in the future.
Officials from Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and district police were present during the drive.
