Authorities have seized 1,500 Yaba tablets concealed inside a pair of sandals and arrested an alleged drug trafficker during a highway operation in Bogra on Sunday morning.
The detainee, identified as Faridul Islam Babu, 40, was arrested around 9:30 am in the Noymile Jamalpur area of Shajahanpur upazila along the Dhaka–Rangpur highway. Officials from the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) conducted a search on a passenger bus traveling from Dhaka to Naogaon following a tip-off.
According to a press release, DNC officers searched Babu and seized Yaba tablets from his sandals. The seized drugs are estimated to be worth approximately Tk 375,000.
DNC officials said the suspect had transported the narcotics from Cox’s Bazar to Bogra. A case has been filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act with Shajahanpur Police Station.
Police confirmed that the accused has been sent to jail through the court, and further investigation is underway to identify others involved.
