The Bangladesh Rice Research Institute organized a harvest and field day for its high-yielding BRRI 108 rice variety in Gopalganj on Saturday.
The event was held on the farmland of Rabindranath Biswas in Borashi Dakshinpara village under Sadar upazila, where the crop was harvested and its yield measured.
Dr Md Rafiqul Islam, Director (Research) of BRRI, attended the program as the chief guest. The session was chaired by Dr Amina Khatun, Head and Chief Scientific Officer of BRRI’s Gopalganj Regional Office, and moderated by Scientific Assistant Md Abdullah Al Momin.
Among the speakers were Senior Scientific Officers Dr Md Romel Biswas and Dr Md Humayun Kabir, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Mafroza Akhter, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Binodini Sikder, and farmer Rabindranath Biswas.
Officials reported that BRRI 108 performed strongly in the area, yielding approximately 37 kg per decimal of land. On the farmer’s one bigha plot, the yield exceeded 48 tons per hectare equivalent, demonstrating its high productivity.
