Four suspected robbers were detained by local residents and handed over to police while attempting to flee after a robbery in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj.
The incident took place at Mushuria village under Ramshil union on Thursday night.
According to locals, gold traders Krishna Karmakar and Shib Shankar Karmakar from Poysarhat in Agailjhara upazila of Barisal were returning home to Ratal village in Kotalipara after closing their shop. When they reached Sikri Bazar, four individuals identifying themselves as members of the Detective Branch (DB) forced them into a microbus.
As the suspects attempted to flee, residents from both sides managed to block and detain them.
The detainees were identified as Robiul Dhali (25), son of Sekendar Dhali from Uzirpur upazila, Ilias (32), son of Abdus Salam; Parvez (33), son of Nizam Uddin, both from Bakerganj upazila and Zahir (38), son of Mizan from Bamna upazila.
Acting on information from the detainees, Kotalipara police recovered RAB uniforms, handcuffs, and a toy pistol from near the Mushuria sluice gate in Ramshil Union on Friday.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Riyad Mahmud of Kotalipara Police Station said a case has been filed in this connection.
