A workshop on cluster development and capital investment planning was held in Rajshahi on Tuesday, focusing on strengthening citizen engagement in city development initiatives.
The event, organized by the Rajshahi City Corporation in collaboration with the Local Government Engineering Department’s Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project, took place at the Nagar Bhaban conference hall. It was presided over by RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton.
Speakers highlighted the importance of participatory urban planning and urged citizens to actively engage in development activities. Riton also underscored ongoing government efforts on women’s empowerment and grassroots development programmes.
Officials said the World Bank-funded project aims to improve climate-resilient urban infrastructure, strengthen municipal services, and enhance economic growth through better planning and coordination.
The project will be implemented in 81 municipalities and six city corporations across 36 districts in its first phase, with women expected to make up about half of the beneficiaries.
Planned infrastructure improvements include roads, drainage systems, street lighting, public toilets, markets, transport terminals, and municipal facilities, with a focus on inclusive and climate-resilient development.
