Masud Rana Pramanik, acting convener of Natore’s Gurudaspur upazila unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), has been expelled from the organization after leading a motorcade of more than 50 vehicles amid ongoing nationwide fuel crisis.
In a press release issued on Monday, the central committee of JCD said the decision was taken on specific charges of violating organisational discipline.
JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir approved the decision.
Leaders concerned said the organisation would continue to take strict action against any activities that breach party discipline in the future.
The statement noted that organising a large motorcade amid a fuel shortage contrary to the government’s austerity measures, not only violated party discipline but also tarnished the organisation’s image.
According to sources, the motorcade, led by Masud Rana on Sunday afternoon, began from the Gurudaspur Pilot Model High School field with around 50 Hiace and private cars. The procession moved through various roads in the upazila before ending at Chanchkoir Bazar, where supporters chanted slogans to assert their presence.
Photos and videos of the event later went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism and prompting swift action from the central leadership.
