Baul singer Abul Sarkar has been released from jail on bail.
He walked free from Kashimpur Central Jail Part 2 in Gazipur at around 11:15am on Monday.
He had been arrested in a case filed over allegations of hurting religious sentiments and making derogatory remarks.
Jail Superintendent Halima Khatun of Kashimpur Central Jail Part 2 confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
On November 4, 2025, allegations emerged that Abul Sarkar made remarks deemed offensive to religion during a pala gaan performance at "Khala Pagli’s fair" in Jabra area of Ghior upazila in Manikganj. A video of the remarks later spread on social media, triggering criticism.
On the night of November 19, a team of Manikganj Detective Branch (DB) detained him from a musical event in Madaripur. He was brought to the Manikganj DB office the following morning.
Later that day, a case was filed with Ghior Police Station by one Mufti Md Abdullah, accusing Sarkar of blasphemy. He was subsequently shown arrested in the case and sent to jail through the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Manikganj.
Sarkar later filed a petition with the High Court seeking bail in the case, which has now been granted.
