Eight platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to maintain law and order during the Bogra-6 (Sadar) by-election slated for April 9.
The deployment, which began on April 2, will continue until April 11. BGB members have been stationed at three base camps in Sadar upazila and are actively carrying out field-level duties. They have begun operations on the ground since Friday.
Returning Officer and Senior District Election Officer Fazlul Karim confirmed the deployment, stating that BGB members will be responsible for maintaining law and order during the election period.
Earlier, the Election Commission decided to deploy BGB to maintain law and order. Additional security arrangements, including the appointment of executive magistrates, have also been put in place.
In the 13th national election held on February 12, Tarique Rahman was elected from Bogra-6 (Sadar) and Dhaka-17 constituencies by a large margin. He later took oath as a Member of Parliament for Dhaka-17, prompting the Election Commission to declare the Bogra-6 seat vacant.
In accordance with the constitution and electoral laws, the by-election schedule was subsequently announced.
