Groom dies in road crash a day before his wedding

A tragic road accident claimed the life of a young groom in Baraigram upazila of Natore on Sunday morning, turning a day of celebration into one of mourning.

The deceased, Julfikar Islam Jillu, 29, was an engineer and the youngest son of Ansarul Munshi of Dashuria Nowdapara village in Ishwardi, Pabna.

According to police and local sources, the accident occurred at around 8:00 am on the Natore–Pabna highway near Gormati Colony. Julfikar was driving a private car from Dashuria to Natore to pick up his sister and brother-in-law for the wedding.

On the way, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The car crashed into a roadside tree before colliding with a parked truck. He died on the spot as the vehicle was severely damaged.

Family members said Julfikar’s wedding had been arranged with Antra Khatun, a student of Rajshahi Medical College. The bride’s gaye holud (a traditional pre-wedding event) was held on Saturday, while the groom’s ceremony was scheduled for Sunday.

Following news of the accident, both families were devastated. When visited, the bride’s home in Chondipur Borochhoyghoti village was found locked, while workers were seen dismantling wedding decorations.

Officer-in-Charge of Bonpara Highway Police Station, Monirul Islam, confirmed the incident, stating that the body was handed over to the family. As no complaint was filed by the relatives, no autopsy was conducted.
