The identities of 12 people killed in a bus-train collision at a railway crossing in Comilla's Paduar Bazar area have been confirmed. Among them is a mother and her two daughters from one family. Another family includes a husband and wife.
The three dead from one family are Pintu Islam's wife Laiju Akhter (26) and her two daughters Khadija Akhter (6) and Mariam Akhter (3) from Patibila village in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah. In addition, two from one family are Sirajul Islam (70) and his wife Kohinur Begum (55) from Moktarpur village in Chaugachha upazila of Jessore.
The remaining seven deceased are Tajul Islam (67) of Chapatli area of Kachua upazila of Chandpur, Juhad Biswas (24) of Jhenaidah, Babul Chowdhury (55) of Sonaimuri of Noakhali, Fachiar Rahman (26) of Mohammadpur area of Magura, Sohel Rana (25) of Jibannagar of Chuadanga, Nazrul Islam alias Raihan (45) of Fazilpur village of Begumganj of Noakhali and Saida Akhter (9), daughter of Sirajuddaula of Laxmipur Sadar.
The identities of the deceased were revealed at Comilla Medical College Hospital on Sunday (March 22) afternoon. The bodies have been kept there, said Laksam Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Jasim Uddin.
He also said: "The bodies will be handed over to the relatives after the legal process is completed."
On Saturday, Eid, at 2:55 am, a passenger bus of Mamun Special Paribahan from Chuadanga to Laxmipur collided with a mail train from Chittagong to Dhaka at the Paduar Bazar rail crossing area in Comilla. Twelve people were killed and many were injured.
Two gatemen have been dismissed in the incident. Two railway investigation committees have been formed in the incident, said Divisional Railway Manager Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan.
A separate investigation committee has also been formed by the Comilla district administration, said Comilla Deputy Commissioner Md. Reza Hasan. The investigation committee will submit a report within three working days and a grant of Tk 25,000 will be given to the families of the deceased, the Deputy Commissioner also said.
