The country’s largest Eid-ul-Fitr congregation was held at Gor-e-Shahid Maidan in Dinajpur at 9:00 am, where hundreds of thousands of worshippers offered prayers.
The prayer was led by Maulana Matiur Rahman Qasemi. Among those who attended were Dinajpur Sadar-3 MP Syed Jahangir Alam, District Commissioner Rafiqul Islam, Superintendent of Police Zedan Al Musa, along with worshippers from different professions and walks of life.
Worshippers from various districts of the Dhaka, Chittagong, and Rangpur divisions joined the congregation. MP Syed Jahangir Alam of the Sadar-3 constituency delivered a welcome speech to the attendees.
During the prayer, supplications were made seeking the welfare of the country and the nation, forgiveness for the late Begum Khaleda Zia, and protection for Muslims in the Middle East amid ongoing conflicts.
The congregation, held on 22 acres of land at Gor-e-Shahid Maidan, is considered the largest Eid gathering in South Asia in terms of area. This year, participation was somewhat lower due to adverse weather conditions. According to Dinajpur Weather Office in-charge Tofozzal Hossain, 29 millimetres of rainfall was recorded from the previous night until dawn.
Worshippers entered the field through 22 gates after passing security checks using metal detectors. The venue was monitored through CCTV cameras and watchtowers. A medical team was present, and arrangements for ablution and drainage were in place. The congregation proceeded in an orderly manner.
Superintendent of Police Zedan Al Musa said a four-tier security system was ensured, with police, RAB, Ansar personnel, and plainclothes intelligence agencies on duty.
The Eid-ul-Fitr congregation was organized by the Dinajpur District Administration and the municipality. Worshippers expressed satisfaction that the congregation was held despite challenging weather conditions.
